The Tennessee Campus Compact applies for and is awarded an annual Americorps*VISTA grant to field AmeriCorps*VISTAs to TNCC member institutions. Since the fall of 2007, TNCC has fielded 144 VISTA members at 26 Tennessee educational institutions. AmeriCorps*VISTA members are well-suited to member campuses looking to expand or increase community impact, and have been key in developing and expanding academic service-learning infrastructure capacity, volunteerism and student engagement, forging strong and sustainable campus-community partnerships, and more for TNCC member campuses. TNCC VISTAs commit to serve full time for a year on member campuses and focus on developing sustainable capacity-building measures rather than engaging in direct service. TNCC alternately offers AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associate terms, in which a VISTA will serve an 8-week summer term at a TNCC member campus. VISTA Summer Associates are processed similarly to full term VISTAs, but are able to engage in direct service measures to complement their indirect service goals.
TNCC member campuses must abide by a set of federal processes and approvals to obtain a VISTA.
