The CNCS AmeriCorps*VISTA program is TNCC’s signature project. Member campuses, prospective applicants, and current applicants may peruse the tabs in this section for relevant information. The TNCC VISTA project continues to be sustainable as a dozen VISTAs have transitioned to permanent higher education staff promoting service-learning.
The AmeriCorps VISTA program is a national service program dedicated to “fight poverty with a passion.” VISTAs, or Volunteers In Service To America, serve full-time for either a year or an 8 week summer term. The goal of VISTA service is to expand and create programs and capacity to ultimately bring individuals and communities out of poverty. At the Tennessee Campus Compact, this takes the form of building and sustaining campus-community partnerships to meet identified community needs. For more information on becoming an AmeriCorps VISTA, please visit?www.americorps.gov.
With TNCC member institutions in every major region of Tennessee there are also other opportunities to serve as a VISTA throughout the state. To apply to be a TNCC VISTA you must be interviewed by a TNCC member institution looking to bring on board a VISTA, and apply for VISTA service online through?www.americorps.gov. Please see the step-by-step instructions?here?for the full on-boarding procedure.
