TNCC provides leadership in various ways to serve as the convener, catalyst, and coordinator of civic engagement, academic service-learning, and community service in higher education. Over the past four years, TNCC’s priority has been to institutionalize academic service-learning in its member campuses through AmeriCorps*VISTA members, regional training, campus in-service training, conferences, and participation in various national recognition programs. The TNCC is currently building consensus to develop a set of standards to ensure that member institutions can best empower, support, and reward community engaged faculty through institutional procedures of review, promotion, and tenure.
TNCC is pleased to bring awareness to its member institutions of the various national recognition opportunities available for civic engagement, academic service-learning, and community service in higher education. In the past four years, since the founding of the TNCC and an infusion of AmeriCorps*VISTA members on campuses, Tennessee colleges and universities have received remarkable national recognition (see below).
